THE BRIEF
A local Dungeons & Dragons group reached out for an exciting project. A custom deck of tarot cards to represent the characters of their game. The task was to illustrate each one with fun traits and easter eggs of the respective characters, and to design for them to be printed as a physical deck.
SOFTWARE USED
Inspiration
Off the bat I knew this would be a visual homage to the classic Rider Waite tarot cards. The most well know iteration of the deck. My own artistic expression came from getting an understanding of each character from their respective player. Then allocating which of the classic named arcana would best suit them. Adapting the original cards with a new visual flare to match the characters personalities and renaming cards where appropriate.
Typography
To fully capture the aesthetic of the traditional cards, finding an appropriate typeface was pivotal.
